“If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters, yes, even his own life, HE CANNOT be my disciple”
Luke 14:26.

Thursday Night Cell Group meets at 7:00 p.m.

We know He spoke in hyperbole to exaggerate the point, but the lesson is crystal clear.  We know becoming a Christian is by an act of faith in Christ alone to receive the free gift of eternal life, but becoming a disciple is much more.

A disciple is one, who after receiving eternal life, responds further by acts of repentance from his/her sins, and surrenders all things to His Lordship.  So Jesus exaggerated the point that it would appear you hate your family members in comparison to your rich love for God.  He also said if you're not willing to do this, you won't be allowed to become a disciple.  Wow!

A sharp, yet profound word.

Our Thursday night study meets in a comfortable home setting where we talk freely about passages like the one I just quoted.  We go verse by verse in a non threatening atmosphere where we hang out and enjoy our friendship and the wonders of God's holy word.

Sweet River church has a “schoolin for Rulin” home ministry.  Our Thursday night study is probably one of the most effective things we do at this stage of our development.  Our goal is to make disciples out of non-disciples.

Some people become a student of scripture without ever receiving Christ as savior, while others receive Christ as savior but never become a student of scripture. Is that crazy?
You bet!!

Becoming a disciple is no small matter however, nor is it for just anyone.  Why?  Discipleship will cost you everything!  Not all Christians desire to walk such a sacrificial road.  Remember the words of Jesus;
